Our Neighborhood
Why Live in this Area?
For us it's easy, this area offers something of everything. From a real community feel, to great facilities, easy accessibility and a sense of belonging.
Gulfport in particular, a little known ‘Old Florida’ town just minutes from the cosmopolitan city of St. Petersburg on the south coast of Florida, twenty minutes from Tampa and 90 minutes from Orlando. The town is built around a small historic district with wonderful, individual homes of character. Much of the old town retains the old brick roads and is built around a small downtown area with a wealth of restaurants, bars, and quaint stores. At the end of downtown you will find the small but pretty beach area with pier and old style casino, used mostly for dancing and events. All of this just happens to be within walking distance from many neighborhoods.
Gulfport is an active artistic community, with many artists and musicians in residence in the town. There is a wonderful air of acceptance for anyone and everyone and a real community feel with regular events such as the Tuesday fresh market, the art walk twice a month and many annual events such as the ‘Gecko Festival’, ‘Blues Fest’, ‘Get Rescued in Gulfport’ and of course there is always the ‘Keep Gulfport Weird, Triathlon’ as well as our July 4th Celebrations which are truly the best in the area and probably Florida! All this and much more in a town who’s unofficial slogan is "If you are too weird for Gulfport, you are just too weird!".
St Petersburg is a larger more cosmopolitan city, again very artistic and diverse with everything on offer to delight any age and satisfy any interest, be it musical, artistic, performing arts, playing golf, being out on the water, shopping of simply dining out. It has a more European feel than much of Florida, an abundance of live music most nights, café style outdoor dinning and restaurants, bars and coffee shops open into the late (and early hours), St. Pete and Tampa are undoubtedly two of the most vibrant areas on the South coast of Florida, with this in mind it appeals to all age groups, there is a great college community here as well as an attraction for young families, empty nesters and young at heart retirees.
Neighboring Gulfport is South Pasadena, which is a great place if you want more access to St. Pete beach and the water and of course is still a stone's throw to Gulfport.
From a practical stand point, being twenty minutes from Tampa airport and just a few minutes from the I275 gives us great access to just about anything and everything. For a sporting fan you're only 10 minutes from Rays baseball stadium, the Rowdies (soccer) are about the same distance and within a twenty minute drive you can get to the Buccaneers football stadium or the Lightening for hockey. We are also in a great cultural area, with Ballet, opera and many theatres locally, as well as many music venues, art galleries and museums. We do of course have great beaches, with Fort Desoto being arguably the best in Florida and of course there is St Pete Beach with an abundance of Hotels, beach bars, restaurants and of course beach soccer and volley ball regularly for pick up and competitive games, or just for the spectator.
So if you're looking for home or that home away from home, let us help you find it as we did.
